576,815. Hay ricking machines. SMITH, W. L. Aug. 2, 1944, No. 14722. [Class 6 (iii)] A machine for ricking bay or other cut crops comprises a rotary platform or turntable 3 mounted on a low undercarriage or frame 5 means such as a string-controlled locking mechanism 10 for releasably locking the frame in a horizontal position and for permitting it to tilt the turntable to discharge the rick, and mechanism for imparting a slow rotation to the turntable. The machine shown has a tow bar 8 for connection to a tractor, the power take-off shaft of which drives a shaft 15 which is geared to another shaft 18. These two shafts rotate in opposite directions and are fitted with rubber treads or gear wheels for driving the turntable. The latter is mounted for rotation in frame 5 and is supported by idle rollers 12 carried by lateral extensions of the frame. To discharge a rick the locking mechanism 10 is released and the frame tilted about the axle 7 of land wheels 6. The crop is delivered to the turntable by an elevator 20. In a modification, Figs. 2 and 2a (not shown), the elevator is disposed at the front of the machine, and the turntable is driven by gearing from the axle 7.
