Abstract
610,678. Edge-trimmers. PRESSWOOD, R. F. April 13, 1946, No. 11431. [Class 6(ii)] An edge - trimmer attachment, comprising a small cutter cylinder and ledger blade, is mounted on a wheeled chassis in such a manner as to overhang the edge of the lawn to be cut, the attachment being carried by a bracket pivoted to the chassis and movable relatively thereto into an inoperative position. In the form shown, the edge-trimmer is attached to a conventional type of lawn-mower comprising a rear roller c driving a cutter cylinder e through chain gearing g. The edge-trimmer comprises a housing h in which is rotatably mounted a shaft i<SP>1</SP> carrying a cutter cylinder i cooperating with a ledger blade j which may be adjusted relatively to the cutter cylinder by a screw device j<SP>2</SP>, j<SP>3</SP>. The housing h is adjustably mounted on an eccentric hub m bolted to one of the side plates b of the machine and may be rotated in order to engage or disengage bevel gears e<SP>2</SP> and e<SP>3</SP>, carried respectively by the shafts e<SP>1</SP>, and i', by means of which the drive is transmitted to the edge trimmer. A small guide roller p, mounted at the front of the machine, engages the lawn edge. In a modification, the main cutter cylinder e is replaced by a plain shaft.
