Abstract

595,381. Lawn-mowers. WELLER, J. May 22, 1945, Nos. 12709/45, 6069/46 and 15139/46. [Class 6 (ii)] A lawn-mower of the rotary cutter and ledger blade type is characterised in that the rotary cutter is driven by an internal electric motor and is supported by a land roller located rearwardly of the said rotary cutter. The cutter A carrying field magnets U rotates on a stationary spindle B upon which is mounted a fixed armature T. The frame of the machine includes side plates C interconnected by tie rods F, G and having rearward extensions which carry a trailer roller D. Pivoted upon the fixed spindle B is a subsidiary frame formed by the main handles N and downwardlydepending arms L which carry a pair of coaxial rollers J preferably interchangeable with the rear roller D. The subsidiary frame may be swung into the dotted position of Fig. 1 to raise the cutter clear of the ground. The working height is determined by contact between the arms L and adjustable blocks O. An electric cable 7 from an external power source reaches the machine through a hollow arm 8 swingable from side to side of the machine whence it passes through the hollow tubular handles N to the armature T. A cable drum (not shown) may be mounted on the handles in lieu of the arm 8. The grass box 12 is mounted at the rear of the machine on rubber stops 13, a gap being left between the cutter and the forward end of the grass-box. To vary the separation between the rotary cutter and the ledger blade 3, the spindle B is mounted upon eccentric collars 2 provided with adjusting levers.
