[Class 6 (ii)] The running frame of a lawn-mower consists of two metal side plates 13 braced apart by rigid tubular distance members 14, 15, at either end and by a pressed metal delivery plate or gra'ss thrower 16 welded to the plates. The frame is constructed before the roller 10 and cutting mechanism 30 are fitted in position, and the side plates 13 each have a slot extending from one edge for the reception of the roller spindle. The frame shown has vertical slots 24 extending upwardly from the lower edges. of the plates 13 for receiving the. roller spindle, the heads of the slots having lateral extensions to permit of ad.- justments. to the spindle lengthwise of the machine. The cutter cylinder spindle fits in bearing bosses of metal straps 31 pivoted at 39 to the inner faces of plates 13, one end of the spindle having an internal screw thread for the reception of a short stub axle which passes: through a 'slot in the side plate and which carries a driving sprocket 28. Straps 31 can be moved about their pivots by eccentric disc adjustment devices 40 to adjust the cutter cylinder 30 with respect to ledger blade 21. The latter is carried by the foot 18 of grass thrower 16. The sprocket 28 which has a chain drive connection with a sprocket on the roller spindle may, in a modification, be replaced by the final gear wheel of a gear drive.
