Abstract

881,097. Lawn-mowers. BANSOMES SIMS & JEFFERIES Ltd., and PLUMB, A. B. March 17, 1959 [March 17, 1958], No. 8554/58. Class 6(2). A lawn-mower comprising ground wheels or roller 1, a cutting cylinder 16 co-operating with a ledger blade 17, and an adjustable roller 36 for controlling the height of cut of the mower, is provided with a hood 8 of sheet metal, fibre glass or plastics material which substantially covers the ground wheels or roller and the cutting cylinder, the hood being provided with a slot through which the grass cuttings are discharged. Secured to the hood is a framework comprising two vertical plates 4 spaced apart by a cross member 5, the plates 4 supporting the axle 2 of the roller or wheels 1. Also two side plates 27 are bolted to the hood at 28 and 23, the bolts 23 serving as pivots for arms 22 carrying the cutter cylinder 16, and arms 26 supporting the adjustable roller 36. The cutter cylinder is driven from the wheels or roller 1 (which may be motor-driven), and is adjusted about the pivot points 23, against the action of springs 34, by means of screws 32. As shown in Fig. 2, the ledger blade 17 is fixed rigidly to the side plates 27, but in a modification the cutter cylinder is fixed and the ledger blade adjustable.
