Abstract

611,022. Lawn-mowers. STEVENS, A. H. (Atwood Vacuum Machine Co.). Feb. 22, 1944, No. 3285. [Class 6(ii)] A lawn-mower having a reel 24 driven by drive wheels and having a cutter-bar 28 co-operating with the reel is constructed with a one-piece frame comprising opposed sheet metal side plates 18 and a wide sheet metal cross-member 19 rigidly spacing the plates and integrally connected, as by welding, with the upper parts of the plates. The drive wheels, reel, and cutter-bar are mounted on the side plates and the reel is disposed below the cross-member. In the construction shown a second sheet metal cross-member 20 is welded to the side plates and is arranged immediately above the front roller 27. The blades 79 of the reel are of channel-shape in section to provide two cutting edges. A shield plate 25 prevents grass and dirt from collecting inside the member 19.
