Abstract

516,932. Lawn-mowers. CAMBRIDGE, A. S. July 13, 1938, Nos 20803/38 and 12736/39. [Class 6 (ii) ] The ledger blade of a lawn-mower is pivoted to the frame of the machine and provided with a hand wheel or like means for adjusting its position relatively to the rotary cutter. Fig. 1 shows a mower having a ledger blade 1 pivoted at 4 and a rearwardly projecting lug or bracket 5. A headed bolt 6 passes through an aperture in the bracket 5 and through a second lug or bracket 7 fixed to the machine frame. The upper end of the bolt 6 is threaded and provided with a threaded hand-wheel 8. A spring surrounds the bolt 6. The ledger blade is adjusted by turning the wheel 8 which is secured in any position by a projection on the bracket 7 engaging teeth on the hub of the wheel 8 or alternatively by a spring 'detent engaging notches on the edge of the wheel. Fig. 4 shows an alternative construction in which the bolt 6 is pivoted to the lug 5 and provided at its upper end with a threaded hand-wheel 8 which also screws into a nut 16 pivoted to the frame of the mower. The two sets of threads may be of different pitch to enable a fine adjustment to be made. In a further modification the lower end of the bolt 6 is threaded through a member pivoted to the lug 5. The wheel 8 may be fixed in position by a spring detent engaging notches in the rim of the wheel. As shown in Fig, 1 the frame of the mower is braced by a cross-bar 28.
