[Class 6 (ii)] In a lawn-mower in which the cutter shaft is carried by arms mounted on the side cheeks and adjustable by screw bolts and co-operating nut members, the movement of the cutter shaft towards the stationary knife takes place against the action of springs, the nut members co-operating with non-rotatable locking-members which automatically lock them in adjusted positions. Each screw bolt 16 is mounted in stationary guides 15, 18 on the corresponding cheek 1 and is connected to a pressing member or nut 13 which adjusts the pivoted shaft-carrying arm 5, a spring 19 surrounding the bolt between the carrying arm 5 and the lower guide 18, so as to be stressed increasingly on depression of the arm 5. A member 9 is mounted to slide, but not rotate, in an elongated hole in a bracket 7 on the arm 5, and is radially grooved to engage corresponding ribs or teeth on the lower end of the nut 13 to lock it against rotation, the head of the bolt 16 being non- rotatably mounted in the lower guide 18. The upper guide bracket 15 forms a reinforcing rib on the cheek 1, and serves as a support for the pivoted handle-carrying stirrup 24. The tubular nut 13 is provided with a handwheel having a knurled edge. Its upper surface may be marked with an arrow and the word " adjust " to indicate the direction in which it should be rotated for adjustment purposes, and with division marks to indicate the angle through which it is moved. The angle may also be ascertained by counting the number of clicks made by the teeth on the nut 13 and locking-member 9.
