Abstract
517,727. Lawn-mowers. CLEMSON BROS., Inc. June 18, 1938, No. 18185 Convention date, June 18, 1937. [Classe 6 (ii)] The bed-knife 19 co-operating with the cutting reel 11 of the lawn-mower is mounted to turn about an axis 18a disposed sufficiently outside the plane tangent to the reel at the point of contact of the bed-knife therewith to ensure that any obstruction which is engaged between the fly-knives 10 'of the reel and the bed-knife tends to press this knife more tightly against the reel, and means are provided to limit the movement of the bed-knife away from the reel while permitting free movement thereof towards the reel. Reference is made to Specification 380,398 in which the movement of the bed-knife towards the reel is assisted or followed up by a spring controlled cam. In the form shown, the limiting means comprise a projection 20 on the back 18 of the bed-knife and an abutting screw 21 on a threaded collar on the frame of the mower. The threaded collar is split and provided with a tightening screw 22 to lock the abutting screw 21 in adjusted position. The frame shown is constructed as described in Specification 517,726.
