Abstract

613,272. Lawnmower. MACKAY, J. A. June 14, 1946, No. 17954. [Class 6 (ii)] The cutting cylinder 11 is extended outside the main frame 7, the mower being supported at one side by a driving wheel 9 which operates the blades and by front and rear rollers 12 disposed within the cutting width of the blades. The blade spindle 15 is supported by a tube 16 mounted on the side member 7, the blade webs 17a bearing on said tube. A further tube mounted on tube 16 may carry the blade webs. The end of the spindle 15 may have a disc mounted thereon for turf cutting. When trimming a lawn edge a coulter-like blade 23 may be pivotally mounted on the side frame 7 to lift overhanging grass. In a modification the driving wheel is connected directly to the spindle 15 and may comprise a wheel having two circumferential grooves of different diameters to receive a rubber ring which can be fitted over either groove thus varying the height of the cutter from the ground. The wheel may comprise a rubber ring or tyre held between two flanged plates, a butterfly nut enabling the two plates to be tightened, the expansion or contraction of the rubber ring providing a blade height adjustment. The ledger blade 24 may have a serrated or saw-tooth edge.
