Abstract
632,539. Hedge-cutters. RUEL, E. Aug. 15, 1947., Nos. 22718 and 22719. Convention dates, Feb. 13, 1946 and Jan. 20, 1947. [Class 6(ii)] A hedge-cutting machine comprises a chassis carrying a motor 7 which drives an endless track 5, by which the machine propels itself along the top of a hedge, and also drives a horizontal reciprocating cutter 2. A vertical cutter 29 for cutting the sides of the hedge is also provided. The motor, through a clutch E and pulley 8, drives a pair of longitudinal shafts mounted on each side of the chassis. The longitudinal shaft 11 drives the blade of the reciprocating cutter 2 through an eccentric 13 and a connecting rod 14. The other longitudinal shaft drives the vertical cutter 29 through an eccentric 27. The connecting rod 14 may be toothed, or may be of non-circular section and adapted to rotate, for the purpose of urging cuttings rearwardly to an endless band 15 which is driven by bevel gears 17, 18 from an inclined shaft 19 coupled to a stub-shaft driven from the shaft 11. This stub-shaft also drives the rear roller 6 of the endlesstrack 5.
