571,803. Mowing-machines. HALL TELEPHONE ACCESSORIES (1928), Ltd., and WILTON, H. J. HALL-. Jan. 10, 1944, No. 460. [Classes 6 (ii) and 6 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIII] A mowing or shearing machine has its cutting device A in the form of a continuously driven flexible band sharpened to a knife edge or saw edge and guided by means of pulleys J for instance, so that the two oppositely moving runs are brought into close contact or juxtaposition and both operate to cut the crop. The machine shown is hand propelled and a drive is taken from one of the wheels K to the shaft of one of the pulleys J and thence by their gearing M' to the adjacent end pulley H around which the device A passes. Fixed combs O maybe provided between each pair of pulleys to co-operate with the single stretch of the cutting band in the region, and resiliently mounted devices may be mounted on the machine for sharpening the band when the machine is in operation. The endless band may be frictionally driven by the pulleys or they may be perforated or notched for engaging toothed or sprocket wheels. In a modification Fig. 8 (not shown), the cutter is driven by a motor mounted on the frame.
