Abstract

A cutting frame (3) having a cutting gap (3') limited in a U-shaped manner is arranged between two stalk dividers having chains and tines. The frame (3) has two legs (1, 2) and a web (4) with a cutting edge (4a). Two discs (7, 8) are driven in rotation in opposite directions on drive shafts (5, 6) and are equipped on their circumferences with rubber teeth (9, 10) as drivers. Mounted underneath the discs (7, 8) are triangular cutter stars (12, 13) which possess bezels (12a, 13a) on both sides. A bezel (12a) of the first cutter star (12) leads the flanks (9a) of the first driving teeth (9), whilst the bezel (13a) of the second cutter star (13) trails the flanks (10a) of the second driving teeth (10). During operation, the stalks arriving in the direction (a-b) are first pressed elastically against the cutting edge (4a) by the tooth flanks (9a, 10a) and only then are cut by means of the cutter bezels (12a, 13a). The stalks are held and guided throughout, so that they cannot slide away at the end of the cut.
