Abstract

645,637. Potato harvesters. BLACKSTONE & CO., Ltd. July 8, 1948, No. 18406. [Class 6(iii)] In a potato harvester having a lifting share and a main spinner and an auxiliary or side spinner both running on inclined axes, a single gear-box 1 is provided and contains a driving element 4 and two driven elements 14, 18 which drive the respective spinners. As shown, the machine is mounted on a tractor and a shaft 10 is connected by universal joints and a telescopic shaft to the tractor power take-off shaft. A worm 4 is driven by shaft 10 through a spring-urged clutch. The worm drives the shaft 14 of the main spinner which has a bevel gear 17 which engages a bevel gear 20 fixed on the shaft 18 of the auxiliary spinner. The shaft 18 is mounted on bearings 24, 25 in a part 1a of the gear-box which is adjustable relatively to the main box 1, to adjust the position of the shaft 18 about the axis of the shaft 14. In a modification each of the shafts 14, 18 may be fitted with a worm wheel which engages the worm 18 on opposite sides thereof.
