Abstract

875,499. Road surface finishing machines. HEISE, C. H. March 11, 1960 [July 13, 1959], No. 8593/60. Class 107 [Also in Group XXXI] A "road finisher" for bituminous road surfaces comprises a front part,' upon which is mounted a conveyer band and a prime mover, carried by pneumatic tyred and steerable wheels and a rear part carrying a screed plate, mounted upon a pair of arms pivoted to the front part, the driving wheels being mounted upon a gearbox rotatably mounted upon a hollow shaft carried by the front part chassis. As shown, the front part I is supported upon the pneumatic tyred wheels 1 and 2 and steerable wheels 6, 3 and the rear part II comprising a screed plate IIb and a distributing worm IIc is carried by a pair of arms IIa pivoted to the front part at Ia. The rear part may be raised to an inoperative position for transport by a pair of hydraulic rams 9 pivoted to the gearboxes 4 and to supporting structure IIf. The wheels 1 and 2 on each side are mounted upon a gearbox 4 rotatably supported upon a hollow shaft 5 and a stub shaft 5a pivotally mounted within the shaft 5. The stub shafts 5a are driven by chains 7 and sprockets 6 and 8 from the prime mover and the drive is transmitted to the wheels 1 and 2 by the gears 8a.
