Abstract

178,550. Smith, S. Jan. 18, 1921. Roller mills.-Relates to mills for grinding paints, enamels, inks, &c. and of the kind in which the rollers or grinding stones are independently rotated on horizontal axes which are adjustable for wear in a casing provided with a feed-hopper and with an adjustable scraper to remove the surplus material from the end roller. One of the rollers C is driven by spur gearing C<1>, C<2> from the driving-shaft B, while the other rollers are driven by chain gearing C<3>, C<4>, the chains C<3> passing over idle wheels C<5> mounted in bearings C<6> on the frame A so as to take up the sag of the chains when the spring-mounted bearings C<7> of the rollers are adjusted for wear. Two of the sides D of the feed-hopper are adjustable by means of a right and left handed screw E engaging guide-plates D' secured to the sides. The screw E is operated by means of a hand-wheel D<2> at one or both ends, and the plates D<1> are guided by a rod F fixed to the frame A. The adjustable scraper G is removably pivoted to an arm G<2> fixed to a rod G<3>, which can be rotated by means of a wheel G<4>.
