Abstract

310,736. Burnside, H. Sept. 12, 1928. Floors, treating; wheels and other tools. - A floor surfacing device comprises a frame 1 supporting an electric motor 12 which is connected by chain and sprocket gearing 13, horizontal shaft 14, and bevel gearing 16, 17, to a pair of vertical shafts 8, 9 carrying plates 20, 21 respectively, to which grinding heads 24 are resiliently connected. The plates are fitted with equi-spaced projections 30 connected to rings 27 of rubber or other resilient material, while projections 31 on the grinding heads are also connected to the rings 27 at points intermediate the projections 30. The grinding-heads, which rotate in gear like relation as shown in Fig. 3, are fitted with grinders 33 carrying blocks 34 of emery or similar material. Studs 35 on the grinders engage in caps 36 fitted to the grinding- heads so that in operation the grinders may rotate independently about the studs 35 to ensure uniform wear of the grinding-blocks. Springs 23 are located between central bosses on the plates 20, 21 and the grinding-heads respectively. The rear of the main frame carries a shaft 3 on which is pivoted a carriage having wheels 6 which adjust themselves to the surface of the floor under treatment.
