Abstract
466,412. Grinding glass &c. plates. WEBER, K. A. Oct. 21, 1935, No. 29032. Convention date, Nov. 6, 1934. [Class 60] The edges of glass &c. plates used, e.g. for windscreens are ground and finished in a machine comprising a support 2 carrying the plates 5 in a vertical position, the grinding and finishing wheels 16 and 18 being mounted on a shaft 15 carried on arms 14 on a shaft 12 itself pivotally supported in brackets 13 on the chains 8 which travel round spaced tracks 11 contoured to suit the edges being ground. A motor 21 drives the shaft 15 and a reversible motor 40 drives the chain at a suitable rate through variable speed gearing 42, 43 adjusted through an arm 37 engaged by lugs 36 on the chain. The pressure on the edges is kept substantially constant by means of weights 29, Fig. 7, on the end of a cord passing round a roller 26 of appropriate shape on the shaft 12. The glass holder can be reciprocated to take a plate from the first to the finishing position and vice versa.
