Abstract

346,492. Implements and machines for working land. FOWLER, C. H., Steam Plough & Locomotive Works, Leeds. Jan. 28, 1930, No. 2969. [Class 6 (i).] In a tilling-machine comprising tilling-tools rotating about substantially vertical axes, and spreading or ridging tools behind the rotary tools, the ridging-tools are adjustably attached to a frame or carriage which is movable along ways on a fixed transverse frame by manually operated means extending to the driver's seat. The transverse frame 5 is attached to a part 1 carrying the rotary tools and trailing behind a tractor. The frame 5 comprises channel or flanged members 6, 7 forming guides or ways for vertical and horizontal rollers on the carriage 8 carrying the ridging-tools 22, 23. The carriage 8 is moved by means of a threaded shaft 14 engaging a nut 13 and rotated by bevel gearing 16, 17 and a telescopic shaft 18 provided with a hand-wheel or handle 19. The shaft 14 is enclosed in tubes 28, 29. The ridging-tools 22, 23 are attached to sliding members 20, 21 adjustably bolted at or near the ends of the carriage 8. Brackets 36 on the frame 5 are connected by vertical bolts 34 to forks movable about horizontal bolts connecting them to lugs on the trailing part 1. A bar 37 projecting from the part 1 and supported by a strut engages loosely in an eye 38 on the frame 5. Adjustable chains 43, 44 connect the frame 5 to the sectors 39, 40 or chains 41, 42 by which the trailing part 1 is lifted.
