Abstract

566,949. Alloys. ENFIELD ROLLING MILLS, Ltd., and SYKES, J. March 16, 1943, No. 4299. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] A copper base alloy containing not less than 80 per cent of copper is produced by adding to a copper melt, sulphur so as to be present in the alloy to the extent of 0.05-3.0 per cent and one or more of the metals nickel, cobalt, manganese, iron and chromium, each in combination with beryllium, or phosphorus or silicon, or beryllium with silicon, or nickel in combination with aluminium. Examples of alloys produced are : (1) 0.05-3.0 per cent of sulphur, 0.8-1.5 of nickel, 0.2-0.3 of phosphorus and the balance copper ; (2) 96.79 per cent of copper, 0.4 of beryllium, 2.3 3 of cobalt, 0.3 of silicon and 0.2 of sulphur ; (3) 1.0 of iron, 0.3 of phosphorus, 0.25 of sulphur, the balance copper ; (4) 98.61 per cent of copper, 0.92 of nickel, 0.23 of phosphorus and 0.23 of sulphur. The alloys may be cold drawn and then heated at 350‹ C. for 5 hours and cooled in the furnace.
