Abstract

572,964. Alloys. STEVENS, A. H. (Finkl & Sons Co., A.). June 23, 1943, No. 10140. [Class 82 (i)] Steel alloys capable of withstanding the working conditions of a hot-work piercing die which is subjected to cooling, as by water, between successive piercing operations consist of : carbon 0.45-0.6 per cent, molybdenum 0.9-1.1 per cent, chromium 0.85-1.15 percent, manganese 0.45-0.65 per cent, silicon 0.55- 1.0 per cent, nickel 1.0-1.75 per cent, and the balance iron, which may contain the usual impurities. The preferred alloy consists of carbon 0.5 per cent, molybdenum 1.0 per cent, chromium 1.0 per cent, manganese 0.55 per cent, silicon 0.8 per cent, nickel 1.5 per cent, and the balance iron, which may contain the usual impurities.
