Abstract
566,838. Kiln &c. furnaces. BARRATT, W. G., and HALSALL, J. Y. M. Aug. 3, 1943, Nos. 12531 and 14437. [Class 51 (i)] A kiln or oven furnace comprises an inclined grate a having an inclination the same as that of the usual arches g, f above the grate, the top of the grate being arranged beneath the front arch where fuel is fed to the grate at h by an automatic stoker and the lower end extending above a grate o projecting forwardly from beneath the level of the kiln flues p below the kiln floor v. Primary air for combustion enters below the usual arch i or through a passage a<1> therein and secondary air enters through damper controlled openings in a door n which is used for attending to the fire and through passages u communicating with the bag flue s. The furnaces communicate by means of flues w. The grate a is in the form of a step grate, the passage of air between the grate bars being controlled by movable bricks j. Instead of a step grate an inclined flat grate may be employed supported at its lower end on a bearer which may be adjusted to vary the inclination of the grate.
