Abstract

563,056. Belt forks for carding engines. COATS, Ltd., J. & P., and COATS, I. P. Feb. 11, 1943, No. 2285. [Classes 80 (i), 80 (ii) and 80 (iv)] [Also in Group IX] A belt-fork for carding engines includes one limb 13, in the form of a deep blade, and another limb 14, in the form of a rod, the limbs being connected together by a bridge-piece 15 and pivotally mounted on an actuating member 19, for example by a pin passing through lugs 21, so that it may be swung away from the loose and fast pulleys 10, 11 of the carding engine to enable the driving belt to be removed from or replaced on the pulleys. The limb 13, which may be outwardly beaded at 17 to reduce wear on the belt, acts as a guard for the operator when positioning a rope drive on the auxiliary pulley 10a when grinding is to be effected. The operating means for the fork comprise a rotatable crank pin 27 moving within a slot 26 of a bell-crank lever 25, 19, the arm 19 or actuating member of which is formed with an abutment member 23 for the inside face of the bridge-piece 15. A bolt &c. 24 connects the fork to the abutment 23. In a modification, the arm 19 may be arranged to slide along a guide.
