Abstract
317,934. Dunlop Cotton Mills, Ltd., Andrew, T. E., Howard & Bullough, Ltd., Wilson, W., Townson, F. R., Renold, Ltd., H., Barratt. J. R., and Hoyle, H. June 8, 1928. Carding - engines. -A driving arrangement for a carding- engine comprises a separate motor transmitting motion to the main cylinder shaft through a chain and a centrifugal clutch or other resilient coupling. The motor 1, Fig. 2, controlled by a suitable switch 2 transmits motion to the cylinder shaft 6 through a chain 3 and a centrifugal &c. clutch 4. The sprocket 5 is loose on the shaft 6, being secured thereto bv a dog clutch 8, keyed to the shaft. and operated by a lever 20, which may be connected to the front plate. The sprocket 5 carries grooved pulleys 9, 12 to operate the various parts of the carding-ungine. The front plate 17, Fig. 4, when opened operates a link 27 and slides a plate 26 which is provided with an inclined slot to engage an extension 24 on the lever 20. The clutch control can be dissociated from the front plate by moving the pivot pin connecting the plate to the link 27 from its normal position 42 into a second hole 43. The normal drive for carding is through the chain 3 and clutch 8. For stripping the clutch 8 is opened, the stripping- brushes are driven from the pulley 9 and the cylinder and doffer are rotated manually. For fast grinding the clutch 8 is closed and the motor reversed by the switch 2. The barrow pinion is lowered and the doffer driven by a belt from the cylinder shaft. For slow grinding the clutch 8 is opened, the doffer is driven through the usual gearing by a crossed rope from the pulley 12, and the cylinder is driven from the doffer.
