Abstract

613,800. Carding-engines. WRIGHT, E. July 4, 1946, No. 19974. [Class 120(ii)] [Also in Group XXIV] To the front of the cover C for the doffer B of a revolving-flat carding engine there is pivoted a flap E extending the whole width of the doffer and downwardly to within a short distance of the doffer clothing, one end of the flap being attached to a co-axially pivoted arm E' carrying a catch e' which, during normal running engages a projection f on a weighted lever F, which controls the drive to the doffer, e.g. through a pinion D, and maintains the drive, but upon a foreign body moving the flap E, the catch is moved from the projection to allow the lever F to move an arm G from a stop g<SP>2</SP> to allow a lever D<SP>2</SP> to lower the pinion D from driving engagement with the doffer shaft gear wheel. A rod H enables the arm E' to be moved by hand from the back of the engine. In a modification, the removal of the catch e<SP>1</SP> allows a weighted shaft to rotate and a fork thereon moves the doffer driving belt from a fast to a loose pulley. A weighted lever a applies pressure to the feed roller A<SP>1</SP> and a spring- pressed rod L presses against a plate K, between two holes, affixed to the lever a. When the lap entering the card between the roller A' and the lap plate is too thick or too thin, the plate K will be raised or lowered thus allowing the rod L to pass through a hole therein and the arm l to remove the catch e<SP>1</SP> and stop the doffer.
