Abstract

571,550. Carding engines. PLATT BROS. & CO., Ltd., and MARSDEN, I. April 12, 1944, No. 6734. [Class 120 (i)] In a carding engine having worker rollers associated with the carding cylinder, variablespeed gearing is arranged between the workers and cylinder in combination with means for reversing the direction of rotation of the workers. The cylinder shaft 11 drives a chain wheel 14 on a stud shaft 16, a boss 15 on the wheel 14 carrying a change wheel 18, meshing with a wheel 19 which drives the workers through a chain and chain wheel mechanism 21<x>, 21. To vary the speed of the workers, the wheel 18 is replaced by another and the stud shaft 22 of the chain wheel 21 is adjusted in the slot 23 to accommodate the change. To reverse the rotation of the workers, an idler 29 carried by a stud shaft 28, adjustable in a slot 24<X> in an arm 24, pivotally attached to the shaft 16, is brought into mesh with the wheel 19 which has been disengaged from the driver 18.
