Abstract

536,712. Carding-engines. BROOKS & DOXEY, Ltd., and DRABBLE, A. J. April 6, 1940, No. 6245. [Class 120 (i)] The fancy roller of a carding engine is driven from the cylinder through two V-belts and a reversing gear or gears which give the necessary reversal in direction of rotation to the fancy roller relative to the cylinder and the necessary increase in speed without employing a large pulley on the cylinder shaft. As shown a grooved pulley N on the cylinder shaft 1 is connected by a V-belt M to a grooved pulley I on a shaft J in a gear box A, the shaft J carrying a helical gear F meshing with a helical gear G on a shaft J<SP>1</SP> carrying a grooved pulley K connected by a V- belt P with a grooved pulley R on the fancy roller shaft 2. The pulleys I, K are arranged at opposite sides of the gear box A which is carried by a screwed shaft C adjustable in a bracket B pivotally mounted on a bracket B<SP>1</SP> fixed to the engine frame : by adjusting the shaft C in the bearing B the tension of the two belts is simultaneously adjusted while the pivotal mounting of the bearing allows the correct distribution of the tension between the belts.
