Abstract

623,617. Machinery guards. PRICE, J. H. May 7, 1947, No. 12292. [Class 80 (iv)] A press guard in upper and lower parts 12, 13 which move together by means of a connecting chain 19 is interlocked with a' stopping device or clutch operating mechanism by means of a slotted lever 24 engaged by a roller 22 on the upper movable part of the guard. The slot in the lever 24 comprises a straight part 23 so that no movement is imparted to the lever on the first part of the guard closing movement but on the final closing movement a curved part 26 of the slot is engaged to actuate the lever and a rock shaft 8 to which it is secured. Also secured to the rockshaft 8 is another lever 29 having a pin 31 at its end which co-operates, for example, with a gaffed disc 32 on the machine crankshaft so as to prevent operation of the machine when the guard is open. The machine clutch may also be controlled simultaneously as an additional safeguard.
