663,077. Machinery safety devices. PRESS GUARDS, Ltd., and EVANS, F. A. June 22, 1949 [June 24, 1948], No. 16972/48. Class 80 (iv) A safety device for presses and like machines forming an interlock between the guard 29 and the clutch extractor 10 comprises a spring-pressed plunger 14 co-operating at one end by means of a roller 18 with a cam disc 19 on the crankshaft of the press and at its other end with a pivoted sector-shaped scotch 23 connected by a link 25 to the guard. The plunger 14 also has a lug 13 which engages with the clutch extractor 10 so that when the roller 18 enters a gap 20 in the disc 19 the extractor is held in the clutch disengaging position. This position is maintained when the guard is open by the scotch 23 engaging the end of plunger 14. When the guard is closed the scotch 23 is rotated to release the end of the plunger 14 which can then be moved down when the extractor 10 is operated to engage the machine clutch.
