588,190. Machinery guards. TAYLOR & CHALLEN, Ltd., and CHALLEN, H. D. Dec. 22, 1944, No. 25752. Addition to 585,632. [Class 80 (iv)] A modification of the mechanism according to the parent Specification for operating the braking device of a power-operated press if the guard is not in position comprises a slidable bolt f adapted to be operated by a bell-crank lever e, rod d and lever c from a shaft a to which is secured 'an arm b for carrying the guard (not shown). During operation of the press with the guard in the closed position (position b of the arm) the bolt f is disengaged from a cam j and a normal braking effort is applied by a brake band p through another cam k, follower lever n, rod o, and levers r, t, u, to stop the press after the completion of each stroke. If the guard is left in the open position (position b' of the arm) the bolt f is moved into engagement with the cam j which additionally applies the brake p through a triangulated lever g and rod q to stop the press immediately. The lever r may be operated by hand to apply the brake under certain circumstances as required. Specification 587,973 is referred to.
