Abstract

601,194. Brakes. MICHELMAN, N. Nov. 12, 1945, No. 30182. [Class 103 (i)] [Also in Groups XXV and XXXVII] A brake shoe 146, pivoted at 147, is pressed against a drum 110 on a shaft of a door-operating mechanism when either of two limit switches 102 is opened at the end of the movement of the door. In the arrangement shown, the limit switches are actuated by levers 97 pivoted at 95 and engaged by a cam 93 on a nut 90 which travels along a screw-threaded portion of another shaft 10 of the mechanism; each lever 97 carries an adjustable rod 142 resting on a spring in a trough 144 supported on the brake shoe, so that when either lever 97 is depressed its movement is transmitted through its rod 142 and spring to the brake shoe. The brake is released by a spring 150. In a modification, the brake is applied by a spring and released by an electromagnet which is energized when power is applied to the motor.
