[Class 65 (i)] A power-operated sliding door is actuated by mechanism comprising a pairof flexible transmission members carried by pulleys, one of which is driven by a reversible electric motor through an irreversible worm-gear and a friction clutch allowing the door to be opened independently of the power source. In the arrangement particularly described, the door is connected by two flexible metal tapes, one of which passes over a pulley at one end of the door track, to a pulley at the other end of the door track, forming one element of a friction clutch which is driven through irreversible worm-gearing by an electric motor. The motor has separate field circuits for its two directions of running, each including a limit switch actuated by a striker on the door carriage, and the latter part of the closing movement may be slowed down by providing a resistance which is connected in parallel with the armature by a switch actuated by the striker. The closing limit switch may be replaced by a thermal delay switch in orderto ensure that the door closes completely.
