Abstract
703,997. Machinery safety devices. BOULTON, Ltd., W., and BOULTON, J. Nov. 15, 1951 [Dec. 22, 1950], No. 31199/50. Class 80 (4) A power driven screw press is provided with an operating handle and an additional control lever arranged so that both hands of an operator must be employed when the die descends. The press screw 16 carries a friction wheel 15 driven in one or other direction by discs 13, 14 on a shaft which is axially moved to engage the discs by an arm 19 of a bell crank. The bell crank is pivoted at 21 and is connected to a handle (not shown). The other arm 20 of the bell crank carries a bracket to which is pivoted a stop member 23, linked to the additional control lever 27, and a weighted trip member 29 carrying a roller engaged by the wheel, 15. Normally the lever 27 is horizontal and the member 29 is locked in a vertical position by the member 23 which engages a recess therein. With the parts in this position, should the arm 19 be operated to lower the die, wheel 15 commences to descend and presses against the member 29 to rock the bell crank, thereby disengaging and temporarily reversing the drive. When, however, the lever 27 is held depressed while the arm 19 is operated, the trip member 29 is deflected as shown and the descent is unimpeded. A second recess is provided in the member so that should the lever 27 be released before the die nears the end of its travel the member 29 is again locked and the drive disengaged.
