Abstract
636,095. Machinery guards. UDAL, J. D. Feb. 19, 1948, No. 4894. [Class 80 (iv)] In a guard device for a machine, such as a metal cutting or shaping press, which is driven through a friction clutch which is adapted to be operated by fluid pressure, means are provided for preventing the valve controlling the fluid pressure from opening when the guard is open together with means for preventing the guard being opened whilst the machine is operating. As shown a vertically sliding guard a Fig. 1, carries a ramp m which in the closed position of the guard actuates an electric switch h arranged in a circuit controlling the fluid pressure valve. When the machine is in operation fluid pressure from the control valve acts upon a piston o to slide bolt q to engage the guard and lock it in its closed position.
