Abstract
595,209. Jib cranes; end stop-gears. ANGLO-IRANIAN OIL CO., Ltd., and MILLS, E. E. April 5, 1945, No. 8434. f Classes 78(iv) and 78(v)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A device applied to the luffing unit of jib cranes or like apparatus for preventing overluffing comprises two control units operated respectively by the luffing control member when this is set into the up position and by the jib when this reaches its inner limiting position, the arrangement being, such that when both control units are operated the luffing unit is rendered ineffective for further upward movement of the jib. In the embodiment shown in which luffing of the jib is effected by a petrol motor controlled by a hand-lever b, the control device comprises two switches c, d, [see Group XXXVII], which are arranged in a 'circuit for earthing the magneto through the frame of the crane and which are adapted to be closed by the lever when this is moved to the " up " position and by the jib when it reaches its upward limiting position, respectively. When the luffing unit is an electric motor closure of the two switches serves to interrupt the supply to the motor and if necessary operate a brake. In the case of a Diesel or like engine the control circuit may serve to operate a solenoid to disengage a driving clutch.
