Abstract
583,937. Lever mechanisms. MacGRAHAM, H. C. July 20, 1944, No. 13939. Convention date, July 30, 1943. [Class 80 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXIII and XXXIV] A lever is provided with a pair of fulcrum pins which become effective in turn during a single unidirectional stroke of the lever to vary the velocity ratio transmitted..As shown, the lever 10 has fulcrum pins 11, 12, spaced at different distances from the work point 13, and bearing in slots 21, 22, respectively in a fixed plate 23. The slots 21, 22 are shaped as shown. During the initial part of the downward stroke of the lever 10, from the position shown, the lever 10 pivots about the pin 11 located in the bottom of the slot 21 and the pin 12 moves down its slot 22. The camming action of the slot 22 then causes the pin 11 to disengage from its abutment position in the slot 21 and the pin 12 acts as the fulcrum, the pin 11 moving upwardly through its slot 21. The mechanism is shown applied to a mop-wringer having a pair of rollers linked to the work-point 13 so that the rollers approach one another rapidly during the first part of the down stroke of the lever 10 and are then pressed together strongly during the remainder of the stroke. The lever mechanism may be used for applying a brake to its drum, for actuating the jaws of a vice, or for moving a casement window.
