Blocks and shoes acting or drums.-In an internal shoe brake comprising a pair of pivotally mounted shoes and wherein greater movement. is given by the expanding means to the shoe on which there is a selfassisting or applying action than to the one on which there is a self-weakening action as described in the parent Specification, the expanding means comprises a sliding wedge 6 having unsymmetrical faces 6, 8 respectively engaging the ends of the shoes 2, 3. The wedge may be operated by a sliding rod 10 working in a guide 11 and actuated by a cam 12, or the rod may be screw-threaded and be engaged by a rotatable nut member.
