Abstract

567,614. Actuation of valves. BERRIDGE & CO., Ltd., I. L., MARTIN, C. S., KILBOURN, S. L., and COOKE, A. E. April 14, 1943, No. 5972. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXXVII] A snap-action mechanism for operating valves comprises two toggle-like compression members,'both being resiliently mounted end to end and pivotally supported with a stoplimiting lateral movement, the whole arranged to give snap movement towards or away from the stop by application of lateral pressure on one of the toggle members. Various examples are, described, in Fig. 1, on application of lateral pressure at a point P, compression is applied through a tension member 20 having a contact on its free extremity, operating between stops 17, 18. In modifications, a fulcrum beneath a mid-part of element 10, causes a lateral movement on both 10 and 20 to cause the pivot 13 to cross the tension member line with a snap. Specification 566,762 is referred to.
