724,591. Motor-driving arrangements. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. April 23, 1953 [May 1, 1952], No. 11185/53. Class 35. [Also in Groups XXIV and XXXIV] In a drive unit of the type in which either a flywheel 23 (driven by an electric motor) or a brake member 25 is engaged by a friction disc 19 on a shaft 18 when the latter is slidden axially upon operation of a control lever 28, the control lever is pivoted at 29 and is urged to the brake - engaging position by a flat spring 40 held at one end in a bracket 42 fast on the clutch-brake casing and engaging at the other end a pin 37 on the control lever, an adjusting screw 47 threaded in the bracket contacting the spring and controlling the spring force applying the friction disc to the brake member. The screw 47 allows adjustment to be effected to take up wear of the friction lining on the brake side of the disc 19; alternatively, by sufficiently unscrewing the screw, the disc can be allowed to run free, engaging neither flywheel nor brake member. The position of the brake member 25 is itself adjusted by means 26, 27.
