Abstract
680,723. Combined clutches and brakes. MARINE ENGINEERING CO. (STOCKPORT), Ltd., SMITH, F., and MANN, B. G. Aug. 25, 1950 [Sept. 28, 1949], No. 24858/49. Class 80 (ii). In a device which is particularly applicable to driving looms and the like, the shaft 2 of an electric motor 1 carries a flywheel 3 to which is secured a member 5 forming the driving part of a cone clutch. The driven member 9 of the clutch is rotatably mounted upon a spigot 8 of the flywheel, a sintered bronze bush 11 or the like being interposed between the two parts, and has a V-grooved pulley-portion 12. A spring 15 urges the clutch into engagement, disengagement being produced by a lever 17, a pin 19 and a pressure-plate 14. When the lever 17 is operated, the pressure-plate 14 is brought into contact with a brake pad 20. The clutch friction linings may comprise two strips 10 of synthetic material, as shown. In a modification which permits the V-grooved pulley-portion 12 to be of reduced diameter, Fig. 3 (not shown), the flywheel spigot 8 is cut short, while the driven member 9 is bored to two different diameters adapted to run on the spigot and motor shaft respectively.
