Abstract
815,736. Textile tension control devices. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. July 11, 1956 [July 19, 1955], No. 20804/55. Class 120(2) [Also in Group XVI] Apparatus f o r controlling t h e tension in filamentary or strip material and maintaining it at a predetermined value during winding on a former comprises a driving member rotatable at a predetermined speed, a rotatable drum adapted to be engaged and driven by the material, a lever angularly movable against spring means by the tension in the material on the output side of the apparatus and means associated with the lever for moving the drum into and out of engagement with the driving member when the tension in the material respectively rises above and falls to a predetermined value. Material 25 passes round a grooved drum 12 mounted on bearings on a spindle 10 secured to a lever 7 pivoted at 4 to a bracket 1, and then over a grooved pulley 20 rotatably mounted on the end 9 of the lever 7. Should the tension in the material 25 become excessive, the lever 7 is drawn in a clockwise direction against the action of a spring 23 having an adjusting nut 27, and this brings the surface 19 of a driving member into contact with the surface 24 of the drum 12 at one point to drive the drum and thus feed the material 25. When the tension falls the spring 23 urges the lever 7 to a central position against a stop 22 and so disengages the surface 19 from the surface 24. These surfaces are preferably of metal, but one or both may be of brake lining material. Adjusting screws 26, 27 compensate for wear of the surfaces 19, 24.
