Abstract

786,165. Winding cord. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. Feb. 4, 1955, No. 3294/55. Class 120(2) [Also in Group XXXIV] Apparatus for reducing the tension in a textile cord &c. and maintaining it at a predetermined value during winding on a package &c., comprises a driven drum to draw the material from supply, means comprising clutch mechanism for driving the drum and spring-loaded means to produce a predetermined tension in the material between the drum and the support and movable in response to variations in said tension to engage or disengage the clutch mechanism if the tension in the material rises above or falls substantially below, respectively, the required value. As shown, idler pulleys 8, 9 and 10 guide the cord &c. in non-slipping contact with a drum 3 freely rotatable on bearings 4 and driven by a clutch plate 2 itself driven by an electric motor (not shown). An axiallyslidable clutch plate 5, which contacts a thrust plate 6 through bearings 7, is under the control of a spring-biased lever arm 15, which carries the idler pulley 13 about which the cord passes on its way to the package. This arm, pivoted at 17 and bearing upon thrust plate 6 at 19 has a lever ratio of about 35:1 and is influenced by a leaf-type spring 20 whose force is adjustable at 22.
