Abstract

895,274. Feeding webs. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. May 13, 1960 [May 13, 1959], No. 16445/59. Class 100(1) Tape T is tensioned by rollers 1, 2 driven by the tape and having rims of elastomeric material, the rollers 1, 2 being urged together to produce flattening of their peripheral surfaces. The roller I is supported in bearings in a frame 3 having two L-shaped plates 10. A spindle 18 suuports a bellcrank lever 5 carrying the roller 2 between arms 21. The forked end of a single arm 20 of the bell-crank lever 5 accommodates a spring housing 6 mounted by trunnions, not shown, in open bearings in the forked end. A rod 29 projects through the wall 33 of a cylinder 32 having trunnions, not shown, supported in bearings located in the plates 10. The compression of springs 31, 39 urging the rollers 1, 2 together is adjusted by a knob 38. The frame 3 is positioned with a second frame 4 having side plates 44 supporting a guide roller 46. A spring 7 secured to the frame 4 by a pin 56 and to the frame 3 by a screw 59 engaging a spindle 61 urges the upper end of the frame 3 from the roller 46. In a modification, the tape engages a rubber rimmed roller 65, Fig. 3 (not shown) engaged by a solid rubber roller 66, the rollers 65, 66 being urged together to produce flattening of the peripheries. In a further modification a capstan roller 73, Fig. 4 (not shown) engaging the tape T drives a solid rubber roller 70 engaging a similar roller 71.
