Abstract

829,002. Belt drives. MINNESOTA MINING & MANUFACTURING CO. Dec. 21, 1955 [March 28, 1955], No. 36715/55. Class 80 (1). [Also in Group XX] The belt 10 is maintained in its path around the rollers 11, 12, 13, 15 by mounting the roller 15 in a clevis 18 which is pivotable on the pin 22, and attaching one side of the clevis to a spring 25 and a cord 26 of a constant torque motor 27. The motor is controlled by a microswitch 29 at one side of the belt, and when the motor is not energized the spring tilts the clevis against the stop 28 and the belt is caused to move sideways against the tilt until the edge of the belt operates the microswitch 29. This energizes the motor to tilt the clevis in the opposite direction against the action of the spring 25 until it reaches the stop 28<SP>1</SP>, and the motor remains energized until the belt moves away from the microswitch 29, when the sequence is repeated. Thus, the belt is given a side-to-side weaving motion. Further microswitches (not shown) are provided on each side of the belt to stop the machine should the belt get out of control. Tension in the belt is maintained by the spring 23. Specifications 673,244 and 829,001 are referred to.
