Abstract

993, 350. Tensioning means for filamentary material. Dec. 16, 1963 [Jan. 5, 1963], No. 49528/63. Heading D1D. [Also in Division F2] A brake for a reel 2 from which is wound off a material band 3 comprises a roller 13 which is peripherally in contact with a rotating port 4 of the reel 2 and which is angularly displacable about an axis through the point of contact perpendicular to the axis of the roller, guide means 7, 8 displacable under influence of the tension in the band 3 and a counteracting force (at 11), and means 12 connecting the guide means and the roller in such a way that the roller 13 is displaced about the aforementioned displacement axis towards a position where its axis of rotation is parallel to the direction of movement of the reel at the point of contact when the tension in the band 3 increases and towards a position where its axis is perpendicular to said movement of the reel when the tension decreases. The roller 13 has a rubber tyre 14 and is kept in contact with the rotating disc 4 by a spring 15 which is adjustable by a collar 16. The point of contact between the roller and the disc is substantially on the pivot 9 of the lever 8.
