Abstract

1,101,480. Constant tension device for cables. MICAFIL Ltd. 9 Nov., 1966 [19 Nov., 1965], No. 50201/66. Heading B8B. A regulator for maintaining substantially constant tension in a wire 1 comprises a brake pulley 5 adapted to apply a tension to the wire as it passes therearound, and a control arm 9 pivotally mounted coaxially with the pulley 5 and engaging the. wire 1 at one end via a pulley 10. A first spring 14 applies a moment to the arm 9 opposite to that applied to the arm by the tension in the wire 1 and a second spring 13 applies a moment to the arm opposing the moment from the first spring. The second spring 13 biases a brake 16, 17, 18 against a drum 6 on the pulley 5. As the tension in the wire 1 increases beyond a pre-determined value, the arm 9 pivots against the tension in spring 14 to relieve the tension in spring 13 and the brake 18 is therefore released until the tension in the wire 1 is relieved.
