Abstract
1,129,476. Controlling delivery of wire. WINGET Ltd. 27 Oct., 1965 [20 Nov., 1964], No. 47354/64. Heading D1J. A device for applying tension to a wire W being pulled off a reel 4 comprises a roller 11 which is spring loaded against the reel and is retarded by a friction device. The reel 4 is mounted on a .spindle 4A Fig. 3 which rotates in bearings 3A carried by supports 1. A second set of bearings 3 are also mounted on the supports 1 and carry a spindle 2. The roller 11 is freely rotatable on a spindle 10 carried by arms 8 and 9 which are mounted on the spindle 2. Secured to the roller 11 is a grooved pulley 12 around which passes a cord 13. One end of the cord is fastened at 14 to the arm 9 and the other end is attached to an eye-bolt 15 which passes through a lug 17 carried by the arm 9. A spring 19 maintains the tension in the cord 13 and nuts 18 allow adjustment of the tension. The roller 11 is made of a material which will not slip on the wire and the tension of the cord 13 is adjusted so that slip occurs between the pulley 12 and the cord when the desired tension is reached in the wire. A slipping clutch may be used instead of the friction device described above. A spring 6 maintains the roller 11 in contact with the wire on the reel, from the full position to the empty position, the force applied by the spring being sufficient to ensure that there is no slip between the roller and the wire.
