Abstract

1,075,263. Braking supply reel. COMPENSATING TENSION CONTROLS Inc. June 29, 1964, No. 26788/64. Heading D1J. The tension in a thread being wound is controlled by braking the supply reel YP, the supply reel YP having a brakedrum 16 engaged by a brake band 17 anchored at one end via a tension spring 19 to a baseplate 10 and at the other end to a lever 25 adapted to be moved by a torsion device 38. The torsion device 38 consists of a main shaft (50) rotatably mounted on the baseplate 10, the shaft (50) carrying two guide pulleys 44 so arranged that when the winding material from the supply reel YP is looped around one pulley in one direction and around the other pulley in the other direction, the tensile force in the material causes an angular displacement of the torsion device against a torsion spring (41) (see Fig. 3, not shown) to control the effect of the brake band. To avoid excessive braking, the end 20 of spring 19 is yieldably connected to the base plate 10 through a pivoted double lever 29 which is loaded by an adjustable spring 35.
