Abstract

A wind-off mechanism includes a brake assembly comprising pref. a disc rotating with the bobbin and a friction pad, and ac actuating mechanism e.g. a bell-crank lever biassed by a spring or counterbalance weight which is operative to apply the friction pad to the disc with a predetermined braking force. Yarn passing from the bobbin pref. passes over a pulley wheel carried on one end of a double arm lever, the other arm of which is connected to actuating mechanism so that when the yarn tension increases the double arm lever tilts in one direction and pivots the bell crank lever to reduce braking force exerted by the friction pad and when the yarn tension is decreased the double arm lever tilts in the other direction allowing the friction pad to apply a larger braking force to the disc under the action of the spring or counter balance weight. The device ensures constant wind-off tension without applying a retarding force directly to the filament.
