Abstract

1342669 Braking packages W H K PRODUCTS Ltd 4 Sept 1972 [4 Sept 1971] 41351/ 71 Heading D1J The spindle 1 for the spool 3 and brake wheel 13 is mounted in a housing 2 that is pivoted at 5. A pivot pin 9 couples a brake control lever 8 to the housing 2. The lever 8 rests on a roller 15 that is manually adjustable in the direction of the arrow 22. The apparatus includes means 23, 24 for applying an adjustable pressure loading to the spindle 1 about the pivot 5. As shown this additional pressure loading may be a spring 23 under the control of a screw 24 but it may, alternatively, be a piston and cylinder device. When the roller 15 is vertically in line with the pivot pin 9, the roller 15 supports all the weight created by the spool 3 and the means 23, 24 and the brake pad does not apply a braking force to the brake wheel 13. When the roller 15 is moved to the left of the setting shown the lever 8 tends to rock clockwise and so actuate the brake pad 14, the degree of braking depending upon how far the roller 15 is moved to the left.
